Stabbing Incident on North Carolina Light Rail Train
A three-time illegal immigrant has been accused of stabbing a man who intervened as he harassed an elderly woman on a light rail train in North Carolina. This incident took place on Friday, and the victim was later arrested on unrelated charges on Wednesday.
According to reports, Kenyon Doby, 24, confronted Oscar Gerardo Solorzano Garcia, a Honduran national, demanding that he stop his behavior towards the elderly woman. Solorzano allegedly taunted Doby by saying, “I’m going to show you who I really am,” while in a confused and intoxicated state.
Witnesses described Solorzano as challenging Doby and uttering unintelligible phrases before Doby attempted to intervene. When Doby tried to grab Solorzano, he was reportedly stabbed instead.
Doby, who subsequently pulled out a knife, recalled feeling significant pain and eventually losing consciousness as Solorzano fled the scene. “I wish it had happened to me instead of someone older,” he said, expressing his regret over the confrontation.
While hospitalized, Doby reported suffering serious injuries, including the need for chest tubes to help him breathe. He appealed for prayers and support for his recovery, noting that a fundraising effort has already raised over $100,000 for his medical expenses.
Meanwhile, Solorzano is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, having a lengthy criminal history that includes previous arrests for assault, identity fraud, and illegal reentry into the United States. He was deported for the first time in 2018 and was arrested again in 2021 for illegally crossing the border.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, mentioned that a detainer was filed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to prevent his release, although she noted concerns about local cooperation in such cases.
In an unrelated matter, Doby was charged Wednesday with serious assault charges against a pregnant woman he was involved with, including allegations of physical abuse and threats. The situation surrounding these charges is still unfolding.
