US helps Israel repel Iran’s missile and drone attack, G7 meeting concludes

The United States helped ally Israel repel a major missile and drone attack by Iran and helped intercept hundreds of Iranian drones and missiles.

Attacks on Israel by Iran and its allies appear to have caused little damage, with the Israeli military announcing that it had succeeded in stopping most of the projectiles.

President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Saturday in response to “Iran’s brazen attacks” targeting Israel. The president said in the call that he reaffirmed U.S. support for Israel and condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said Israel was facing a “vicious” attack and the United States “must stand with our allies.” In separate statements, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-New York) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) urged the House to take up the foreign aid package passed by the Senate.
