The US State Department has raised travel advisories for Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean island off the northeast coast of Venezuela.
The State Department has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for the island. In other words, Americans need to reconsider “the increased risk of terrorism and inducement.”
“On December 30, 2024, the Trinidad and Tobago government (Gott) declared a nationwide emergency (SOE),” reads the Department of State's website. “This is due to continued criminal activity that could threaten public safety. On January 13, 2025, Congress extended the SOE until April 2025.”
During the ongoing SOE, Trinidad officials have the authority to arrest people on suspicion of illegal activities and searching for public and private property. Bail has also been suspended for those accused of committing a crime.
