Utah to aid Trump’s deportation effort as violent Venezuelan gang spreads to state

Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) has pledged to support President-elect Donald Trump's plan to launch the largest deportation effort in the nation's history.

Mr. Cox announced Five point initiatives since last month Strengthen national cooperation Federal immigration authorities have met with federal immigration authorities after reports that the violent Venezuelan gang Torren de Aragua is spreading through parts of Utah.

“Federal immigration authorities have failed in their duty to the American people.”

Cox said last week. Quaed“We start with the criminals, the people who are breaking the law and harming the American people. We have to start there. Let's eliminate the worst elements. Let's focus on that. We couldn't do that.'' Then the backlog is ridiculous. ”

Cox said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has become “dysfunctional” under the Biden administration.

“We can't even take 100 criminals, felons, and deport them from the country in this state. ICE is broken in this state because this leader has been disgraced,” he said. “Under the Biden administration, our state's sheriffs have lost confidence in their state's ICE leadership.”

In June, John Ewing of Denver Human Services said the city of Colorado was busing undocumented immigrants to other states, including Utah.

Cox called the sanctuary cities' actions “totally unacceptable” and blamed the Biden administration's “failure of catch-and-release policies.”

said the Salt Lake City-based homeless advocacy group. KSL Most of the migrants arriving in the area were from Venezuela. In response to the influx of illegal aliens, Utah issued a bulletin in English and Spanish describing the state's resources as “limited.” “No shelter available. No hotel accommodations,” it read. “Housing is difficult and expensive to find.”

Early this month, KSL We reported that Torren de Aragua is increasing its presence in parts of Utah. This gang is associated with at least two suspects. crime There has also been a mass shooting in Salt Lake City since September.

The Utah Department of Public Safety told KSL that TDA “does not have a significant presence in Utah” at this time.

Cox said transnational criminal organizations are a “growing threat” in the state.

Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith said, “It's hard to quantify what's here. We know it.” [Tren de Aragua is] Here we are trying to do everything we can to deal with it as it starts to surface. ”

Carlos Moreno, a Venezuelan dissident running for Salt Lake County Assembly District 2, said last week: new york post He says local law enforcement is “not ready” to handle TDA. He warned that gang members are “very different from criminals here in the United States.”

Cox said Utah will lead a joint “targeted effort” by DPS and the state Department of Corrections to “identify, incarcerate, and deport more illegal immigrants who commit or pose for crimes. “We will strengthen our collaboration with federal, state, and local partners.” It's a threat to public safety. ”

The governor outlined five priorities. Find additional “interception points” to identify illegal aliens who have committed crimes, develop more training for local governments on when to turn over illegal aliens to ICE, and “fight fentanyl trafficking.” Developing “long-term solutions” and coordinating with the police. State legislatures draft policies and work with the Department of Homeland Security to identify illegal aliens.

“The safety of Utahns is my top priority when it comes to immigration policy,” Cox said. “Utah continues to welcome refugees and immigrants who enter our country legally and continues to push for reforms to our asylum application process and increased visas to support our workforce needs.”

“However, we have zero tolerance for those who present a threat to public safety while in the country illegally,” he continued. “Federal immigration authorities have failed in their duties to the American people, leaving state and local governments to manage the aftermath of that failure on their own. We are grateful to have an administration taking these issues seriously.”
