Netanyahu: 'Israel Has Lost One of Its Best Allies' -- Israeli Leaders Honoring Lindsey Graham

Condolences Pour in for Sen. Lindsey Graham Following His Death

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep condolences on behalf of Israel’s political landscape, stating that the country had “lost one of its great friends” with the sudden passing of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). He hailed Graham as one of South Carolina’s staunchest allies of Israel in Washington.

Graham, who was 71, passed away on Saturday due to what his office described as a “short, sudden illness.” His death prompted a wave of acknowledgments from both ruling and opposition leaders in Israel, who recognized the senator’s decades of unwavering support for Israel and his dedication to the U.S.-Israel alliance, particularly highlighted by his visits following Hamas’s attacks on October 7, 2023.

Reflecting on a recent encounter, Netanyahu shared, “Lindsay is a great friend of Israel and a dear friend of mine. We have no better friend than Lindsay.” He noted Graham’s belief that the security of both Israel and the U.S. are intertwined, and he remarked on Graham’s lifelong efforts to protect American interests and strengthen alliances globally.

“Israel has lost one of its great friends. America has lost a great patriot. I have lost a dearest friend,” Netanyahu continued. He extended his sympathy to Graham’s family and the American populace during this hard time, expressing a desire for Graham’s values and commitment to inspire future victories and peace.

President Isaac Herzog also shared his shock and sorrow, describing Graham as “a great American patriot, a great friend of Israel, and a dear friend of mine.” Herzog praised Graham as a guiding light and a leader in U.S.-Israel relations, emphasizing that his support would be remembered, especially during Israel’s challenging moments.

Defense Minister Israel Katz labeled Graham as a true friend of Israel, acknowledging his significant efforts to fortify the U.S.-Israel bond. Katz mentioned Graham’s solidarity with Israel following the recent Hamas attacks, which he characterized as a powerful display of loyalty and unity.

Foreign Secretary Gideon Saar expressed his sadness, reflecting on Graham as his “best senator and best friend.” Saar recognized Graham’s firm support for Israel as integral and stated that Israel would always remember him fondly.

Opposition Leader Yair Lapid echoed the sentiments, highlighting Graham’s consistent moral clarity and dedication to both Israel and peace in the Middle East.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett emphasized that America had lost a devoted patriot, while Israel mourned one of its staunchest supporters, particularly during tumultuous times.

President Donald Trump also honored his longtime friend, calling him “one of the greatest men and senators I’ve ever known.” Trump remarked on Graham’s hard work and patriotism, underscoring that he would be profoundly missed.

Having served South Carolina in the Senate since 2003, Graham was in his fourth term, having recently won the Republican primary with Trump’s backing. He was recognized as a key figure in national security and foreign policy, often advocating for the strengthening of the U.S.-Israel alliance and pressing for a firm approach toward Iran.

After losing both parents at a young age, he is survived by his younger sister, Darling Graham Nordon, whom he raised. Graham’s family released a statement requesting privacy and prayers during this challenging time.
