Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed a Venezuelan migrant on the Mexico-Texas border in a failed kidnapping attempt.
El Diario de Juarez According to reports, the incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on Friday next to the border fence along Avenida Juan Pablo II in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua state.
The immigrant was walking toward Gate 36 with the intention of entering Texas when a group of gunmen tried to force him into his car. Militants shot and killed a Venezuelan man during the struggle. The gunmen fled shortly after.
Local police in Ciudad Juarez were called to the scene after a U.S. Border Patrol agent spotted the attempted kidnapping on surveillance equipment.
According to El Diario de JuarezAlthough the shooting occurred in Mexico, the injured man was taken to a hospital in El Paso, Texas, for treatment. Authorities have not made any arrests in the case.
The shooting occurred days after two Venezuelan men believed to be members of the Torren de Aragua gang killed a veteran employee of Mexico's National Migration Institute (INM). As reported by Breitbart Texas, the two Venezuelan men pelted the agent with a rock to death and then attempted to flee. This sparked a massive manhunt, and authorities arrested him hours later.
By Thursday evening, a Mexican federal judge had formally indicted Carlos Arituna SM and David Josué V on one count of murder. According to El Diario de Juarezthe case became a federal lawsuit because the victim was an INM agent.
