It’s interesting, perhaps ironic, to see that the political left, often associated with inclusivity and tolerance, can also be implicated in violence and riots.
Compared to the university setting—what some might call an awakened haven—things seem even more concerning.
The notion of “academic freedom, knowledge, learning, and ideas” appears to have waned. As Mark Levin pointed out, if you hold minority viewpoints, whether intellectually or ideologically, you might find yourself targeted.
Take, for instance, Jay Sani, a junior at Washington State University. Earlier this year, he faced a brutal attack on campus simply for wearing a MAGA hat. Levin aired surveillance footage showing Sani being kicked and punched by two individuals, Patrick Mahoney and Gerald Hoff.
Sani asserts he had never met Hoff prior to the incident, though he recognized Mahoney as someone he had encountered on campus. Sani is involved in conservative activism, while Mahoney is known for his left-leaning affiliations, including participation in pro-Palestinian protests and ties to democratic socialists.
When law enforcement apprehended Mahoney and Hoff shortly after the assault, they seemed to dismiss their aggression, even attempting to shift the blame onto Sani, who had visible injuries. Thankfully, the police saw through their claims.
Both attackers were arrested and face misdemeanor assault charges. They were also removed from their campus roles and are due to appear in court in May 2025.
Meanwhile, Sani continues to don his MAGA hat boldly, standing firm in his conservative beliefs on campus.
Levin characterizes this situation as emblematic of a broader trend of the left leaning towards violence and riots.
