MTV may have hit its stride when it aired Nev Shulman’s 2010 documentary. catfish It evolved into a sprawling reality TV series, but now the network is trying again with a different, even stranger premise. Help! I’m in a secret relationship.
In the series, which premiered in 2022, hosts Travis Mills and Rahne Jones help dumped lovers figure out why their partners won’t go public with their relationship, and in the process, whether they like it or not, they discover incredible secrets.
While the series is being kept under wraps by MTV, novelist Brandon Taylor is pioneering the show on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and recently share It’s a pretty bizarre clip that explains why he’s totally “obsessed” with the show.
“You’d never guess why she is hiding this guy,” he wrote.
The footage shows Frankie and Erin, who were together for two years in season three, having an emotional conversation mediated by Mills and Jones.
In tears, Erin finally confesses to Frankie why she hid their relationship from their friends and family for so long: “I hid you because I’ve never been a vegetarian and I ate meat the whole time we were together,” she says.
Hey, what?
She explains that she was scared that if Frankie found out she still ate meat, he would think she was “contributing to the destruction of the planet.” “It felt so stupid to start with this little lie and let it sit for two years,” she says. “I was embarrassed. I was ashamed more than anything.”
The tense clip ends with Frankie’s incredulous response to Erin’s emotional confession: “It’s not just about the meat!”
Users couldn’t believe the drama the clip brought.
“I swear to God this show is a fever dream,” one X user said. I have written in response to Taylor’s post.
Another user commented that the scene was “nail-biting,” with one asking, “Excuse me is this real or a skit???” They also pointed to another “mind-blowing” video in which a man confronts a longtime friend about why she’s been avoiding him, only to discover it’s because she’s had a fling with a doll called Lauren.
