Volkswagen recalling 261K cars over pump problem linked to potential gas leaks

Volkswagen is recalling more than 261,000 vehicles over pump problems related to gas leaks that could cause fires.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration According to the (NHTSA), the recall includes certain Audi A3s, Volkswagen Golfs, and GTIs from 2015 to 2020 models. Each model affected by the recall is front-wheel drive. Vehicles with all-wheel drive and those without certain pumps are not affected.

According to the document, a problem with the seal on the suction jet pump in the fuel tank could allow fuel to enter the Evaporative Gas Aperture (EVAP) system, resulting in fuel leaking from the charcoal canister.

The document states that fuel leaks in affected vehicles “present an increased risk of fire if there is an ignition source.” Dealers will replace the suction pumps in affected vehicles free of charge, and owners will be notified on April 12.
