Democrats and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) appear to have accomplished something not even Donald Trump could manage in the past decade: turning “Never Trump” voters into Trump supporters.
Trump’s conviction has been a major fundraising boost for his campaign, but it has also helped persuade Americans who were previously reluctant to support him to vote for him in November’s election.
“I feel like I need to send a message to Democrats that their dirty politics will not pay.”
It is the embodiment of the law of unintended consequences.
Last week, venture capitalist Sean Maguire made headlines after he made a six-figure donation to the Trump campaign following his conviction. In a new interview, Maguire said: He told the Free Press It wasn’t necessarily the ruling that persuaded him to support Trump, but the legal attacks on the former president by Democrats.
“People said that Donald Trump would bring about the end of democracy, but it turns out that it was Democrats, not Republicans, who escalated their legal war tactics,” he told the outlet. “So I think right now Republicans are less of a danger to democracy than Democrats.”
Jack McGuire, 48, a travel consultant from Texas, voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and said he once “couldn’t stand Trump.” But that all changed when Trump began facing criminal prosecutions.
“This event demonstrates corruption and deceit at every level and a willingness to use any means necessary to maintain power,” McGuire said. Said “I have come to the realization that enough is enough. I stand fully with the MAGA people. This has to end,” he said, according to the Free Press.
Kate Nitti, a lifelong Democrat who lives in New Jersey, told the Free Press that she is now considering voting for Trump.
“I feel we need to send a message to the Democrats that their dirty politics will not pay,” Nithi said.
“I’m no fan of Trump, but I have a big problem with the way Democrats have been twisting the law and using prosecutorial power in the name of ‘protecting democracy’ for the past four years,” she explained.
President Joe Biden’s campaign argues that Trump is a threat to democracy, and therefore Americans must vote for him if they want to protect democracy.
But Adam Mortara told the Free Press that the real danger to America is Biden and the Democrats.
“The reason I’ve come off the sidelines is that if he doesn’t win, and doesn’t win by a significant margin, it justifies this kind of weaponization of the justice system in the future,” said Mortara, a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School.
“Before, I would have said that if Joe Biden wins the election, it’s not a danger to America,” he added. “Now, I think it is, in some ways.”
Republican Sen. Eric Blakey of Maine agreed with Mortara’s analysis, calling Trump’s ruling “a very blatant attack on democracy itself.”
“Democrats are not defending democracy,” Blakey told the Free Press. “They’re afraid people won’t vote for them when presented with a democratic choice.”
Voters are not only supporting Trump with words, they are also pouring their hard-earned money into his campaign. Within 24 hours of Trump being convicted, his campaign Raised $53 million One-third of small cash donations came from first-time donors.
