VP Vance Encounters a Small Glitch While Contacting President Trump During Speech

Vice President J.D. Vance’s Call to Trump Hits a Bump in Hungary

During a speech in Hungary on Tuesday, Vice President J.D. Vance experienced a bit of a hiccup while attempting to call President Donald Trump. Vance was there to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and mentioned that he was reaching out to Trump at the president’s request.

“Before I start speaking, we actually have a special guest who asked me to call him, so let’s see how that goes. Let’s hope he actually responds. But this is going to be very embarrassing,” he joked before dialing Trump.

On the first try, the audience heard that Trump’s voicemail hadn’t been set up yet, prompting Vance to give it another shot.

“Sorry again,” he said, causing laughter from the crowd.

“It’s ringing. It’s progress,” Vance remarked, and finally, Trump answered.

“Hello, Mr. President. How are you?” Vance greeted, eliciting cheers from the attendees.

“You hang out with about 5,000 Hungarian patriots, and I think they love you more than Viktor Orbán,” Vance quipped during the call.

This visit comes in the wake of Trump’s strong support for Orbán’s re-election campaign, where he praised Orbán as a “really strong leader with a track record of delivering extraordinary results.”

Trump expressed appreciation for Orbán’s efforts, mentioning that he has defended Hungary, bolstered its economy, created jobs, and tackled illegal immigration. In his remarks, he said relations between Hungary and the U.S. have flourished under Orbán’s leadership.

Vance reiterated those ideas in his speech, recognizing the crowd’s commitment to freedom and sovereignty. He emphasized his backing from Trump, stating, “I’m here because President Trump and I want you to succeed, and we’re here with you in this fight,” while drawing a parallel between the challenges faced by both countries due to far-left ideologies.
