Angelenos now have a chance to take part in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, even if they don’t have extensive training or outstanding athletic skills.
The recruitment of volunteers for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games kicked off on Tuesday.
This initiative, backed by Delta Air Lines, aims to gather around 60,000 volunteers for various roles such as communications, driving, medical support, ceremonies, operations, sports, and technology.
How to volunteer for the 2028 LA Olympics
Becoming a volunteer involves five straightforward steps. First, interested individuals should apply online; there’s no hurry, as the order of applications doesn’t determine selection. If shortlisted, candidates will then take part in a teamwork assessment, which can be done either in person or virtually in Los Angeles.
Those who move on from the assessment must pass a background check. Volunteers will then receive training tailored to their specific roles and locations. Finally, they’ll get their uniforms, badges, and schedules to help bring the games to life.
There are two primary volunteer opportunities: preparing the community in advance or taking on roles during the events. Applications are available online.
Applicants must be 18 years old or older and proficient in English. They’ll need to commit to working 10 non-consecutive shifts, eight hours each, between March and August 2028 for the Olympics, and from August to September for the Paralympics.
Selected volunteers will serve at venues in the greater Los Angeles area and other cities, including Oklahoma City, New York City, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San Jose, or San Diego.
The Summer Olympics in Los Angeles are scheduled for July 14 to 30, 2028, utilizing existing venues across Southern California, including the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, with some events taking place in Oklahoma City.
