Rubio Commends Trump on Progress in Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks

Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his appreciation for President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to facilitate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

On a recent appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Waters Prime Time,” Rubio described Trump as “the only leader in the world” demonstrating an ability to negotiate peace between the two nations, labeling the discussions that took place as “unprecedented.”

“After three years of deadlock, without talks or significant change in conditions, this is the first moment we’ve seen some movement,” Rubio commented. “The conflict has been dragging on for over three years. Many lives have been lost, and territories continuously shifted, so it’s a complex situation to unravel. Under the previous administration, our only option seemed to be a continuous supply of funds to Ukraine, no matter how extensive their needs were or how long the situation persisted.”

Rubio noted that global leaders have started to discuss potential paths to end the war in Ukraine, a stark contrast to the standstill experienced during Biden’s presidency.

“It’s going to require additional effort and time, but we are indeed making progress,” he stated. “It’s not just me. Essentially every leader present on Monday echoed this sentiment.”

He contrasted this optimism with the situation under former President Joe Biden, whom he accused of merely perpetuating a “stalemated war of death and destruction” with no clear plan beyond supplying Ukraine with weaponry.

“Another significant shift is that we’re not just providing Ukraine with weapons or funds anymore; we’re actually selling them arms. European nations are financing this through NATO, which is another major change from the prior administration’s approach to the conflict,” Rubio highlighted.

During his Monday meetings, the president connected with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and various European leaders, following prior discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Reports have indicated that Putin is willing to meet with Zelensky and that another meeting involving the United States may follow.

Rubio emphasized that the willingness of both countries to engage in dialogue is already a significant shift from the previous administration.

“I’m not suggesting they’ll exit the meeting with a peace deal, but the mere fact they are now in conversation is crucial—it simply wasn’t happening for those three-and-a-half years,” he remarked, adding that Trump has prioritized peace in Ukraine.

“President Trump is recognized as the sole leader, even by Europeans, capable of communicating with both Putin and Zelenskyy, and bringing them to the table. We should feel proud to have a president who prioritizes peace in his agenda,” Rubio concluded.
