We Used FEMA Funds That Biden Designated for Luxury Housing for Migrants in NYC to Build 'Alligator Alcatraz'

New Immigration Detention Center in Florida

During a recent roundtable discussion, former President Donald Trump stated that FEMA funds allocated by the Biden administration were used to establish a facility dubbed “Wannial Catraz” in the Florida Everglades. This center aims to house illegal immigrants while simultaneously managing a luxury hotel situation in New York City.

Trump’s remarks followed his visit to the Miami Collier Training Facility, which has been transformed into a detention center under the agreement with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Over the course of eight days, this facility is structured to process and detain individuals who are in the country illegally.

“We’re quite pleased to announce the opening of America’s newest immigration detention center located within the Everglades, which is not only impressive but also quite expansive,” Trump remarked.

He referenced the facility, humorously labeling it “Crocodile Alcatraz,” noting that it’s not exactly a hiking destination. “After seeing the surroundings, I wouldn’t want to take a stroll there,” he added.

He characterized the individuals the center is expected to house as “some of the most dangerous people on the planet,” emphasizing the raw and isolated beauty of the Everglades that envelopes the facility.

Trump expressed concerns about the implications of such immigration policies. “We’re literally surrounded by hazardous swamp land, and the most effective solution is to deport these individuals back to their home countries,” he stated.

He went on to express disbelief that FEMA funds were used to support free, luxurious accommodations for immigrants in New York City. “Ron, that was merely a fraction of the expenses associated with this project,” he noted.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has consistently highlighted the fact that illegal immigrants are being sheltered in upscale hotels at taxpayers’ expense.

As reported, New York City Mayor Eric Adams had previously indicated that approximately half of the city’s hotels were accommodating tens of thousands of immigrants. He mentioned that, “About 50% of those hotel rooms belong to asylum seekers we’re funding, rather than being reserved for tourism or theater performances.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that hotel prices in New York City are rising sharply as many immigrants continue to stay in these accommodations.

The Wannial Catraz facility is set to become operational, with the possibility of receiving immigrants as soon as today.
