Exciting news for ramen lovers!
The popular Korean grocery store Mega Mart is making its way to Southern California, with a new branch set to open this week in La Habra. This location will take over the space previously occupied by an Amazon Fresh grocery that closed last year.
Found at 1610 W. Imperial Hwy in the La Habra Marketplace, this new supermarket is gearing up for its grand opening on Thursday, October 29, starting at 9 a.m.
Established back in 1975 in South Korea, Mega Mart boasts 14 stores in South Korea and four in the U.S. — specifically, locations in Fremont, Sunnyvale, and Palo Alto, California, along with Duluth, Georgia.
The chain is particularly celebrated for its extensive range of imported Korean products, which include a vast selection of inexpensive ramen, sushi, and ready-to-eat meals. Additionally, Mega Mart offers a variety of Korean beauty goods.
The La Habra store will feature a dining area right by the entrance, as reported by the Orange County Register.
At the grand opening event, the first 500 customers will be welcomed with a complimentary 5-pound bag of Icheon rice.
Many fans have expressed their excitement about the grocery’s arrival in Southern California. One commenter noted, “Can’t wait! Finally a Korean market closer to where I live.” Another added, “My teens are going to love this store!” A third voice chimed in, recalling their positive experience at another location up north.
This expansion into Southern California comes on the heels of Hashi Market’s introduction to California. Founded in New York City, Hashi recently opened its first California location, taking over a previously occupied Sprouts space.
Hashi Market focuses on offering a variety of Japanese food items, including bento boxes, onigiri, teriyaki skewers, katsu curry, and baked salmon. They also provide freshly made sausage buns, cheese breads, as well as a selection of Japanese cosmetics, home goods, and pop-culture merchandise.
