On Monday's broadcast of NewsNation's “The Hill,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-South Dakota) said the debt limit would need to be raised to provide California with disaster relief.
Mr. Lowndes said while discussing potential conditions on the aid: [are] There are two other items to consider. The first is that we have to increase our debt limits in order to borrow the money we use to take care of these people. That part, at least, isn't discussed much. But I think that will be part of the discussion. ”
Then host Blake Berman asked:[Y]Do you think this is moving in the direction that aid could be tied to an increase in the debt limit?”
“I'm sure they do that because they can't provide assistance without the ability to borrow money,” Lowndes said. And you've already reached your debt limit. So at this point, they're taking extraordinary measures to keep paying their bills. So part of what we end up talking about is, if we need to put in maybe $100 billion or something close to that, we need to have a way to do that, and the debt limit is It means that it will become. Increase for that purpose. That's my opinion. But I think that's something that needs to be discussed. ”
