West Virginia Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Father with Crossbow

A man from West Virginia has been arrested on suspicion of shooting his father in the face with a crossbow. This incident reportedly led law enforcement on a challenging chase across several counties amidst snowy conditions, authorities reported.

Chase Fleming faces charges of aggravated assault, with the possibility of more charges to come, as stated by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Law enforcement revealed that Fleming was taken into custody following a thorough search and an extended pursuit through the snowy terrains of Jackson and Roane counties.

The condition of the victim is currently stable, according to police reports.

After the incident, Fleming was sent to a hospital for observation instead of jail, as investigators sought to address his medical needs.

Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger mentioned to local news that Fleming had entered his father’s house with a loaded crossbow. A confrontation ensued, during which Fleming allegedly discharged the weapon, resulting in injury to the victim’s face.

The bolt reportedly pierced just below the left eye and exited through the back of the head. It’s quite astonishing, honestly. Sheriff Mellinger noted, “I don’t understand how that guy is still alive. It’s really amazing.”

After the shooting, Fleming fled in a pickup truck, which later crashed.

The sheriff disclosed that the search for Fleming involved multiple K-9 units and drones, covering nearly seven miles through snow and forested areas.

Ultimately, he was found hiding beneath some rocks on a remote ridge and was apprehended without any struggle.

As of now, a bond amount has not been established, according to the sheriff’s office.
