White House Can’t Explain Why Egypt Is Blocking Aid to Gaza

The White House has previously criticized Israel for its slow delivery of humanitarian aid and recent attacks on aid trucks by right-wing activists, but on Wednesday it will criticize Egypt for blocking aid to Gaza. I was struggling with that.

Egypt has been blocking Aid trucks have continued to flow into Gaza since Israel took control of the Rafah crossing on the Egypt-Gaza border last week. Egypt opposes Israel’s operation in Gaza to defeat Hamas’s last battalion.
On Wednesday, Jake Turks, White House correspondent for the Orthodox Jewish magazine, said: Ami, called on White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to respond to Egypt’s actions. Jean-Pierre seemed to have dodged the question.

“We will continue our diplomatic dialogue,” Jean-Pierre said without further comment on the need for Egypt’s assistance in transporting humanitarian aid across the border to the Gaza Strip.

In response to a follow-up question about how Egypt justified blocking humanitarian aid, Jean-Pierre would not elaborate on diplomatic negotiations, but would only reaffirm the U.S. commitment to aid entry into Gaza. He said he couldn’t do it.
