Ryan Pauls isn't going anywhere.
Bears President Kevin Warren confirmed Monday that the team's current general manager will “remain as general manager” and lead the search for a future head coach following Friday's firing of Matt Eberflus.
“Ryan Pauls is and will continue to be the general manager of the Chicago Bears,” Warren said. According to Pro Football Talk.
The Bears hired the Polish player in January 2022 after serving as the Chiefs' executive director of player personnel. He started as a scouting assistant in Kansas City in 2009.
Eberflus went 14-32 in his two-plus seasons at the helm.
What broke the camel's back was the Bears' most recent loss, a heartbreaking 23-20 loss to the Lions on Thanksgiving.
“I was hoping we could run the play over, take the snap with about 18 seconds left, throw it in field goal range and call a timeout,” Eberflus said.
Eberflus held a press conference Friday morning, but was fired shortly thereafter.
Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown was then named interim head coach.
The Bears visit the 49ers on Sunday.
