Although House Republicans have vowed not to renew funding for the State Department's Global Engagement Center, which directs government censorship efforts, there may be no reason to celebrate just yet.
“The Global Engagement Center is an office within the State Department that works with the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies,” said Gabe Kaminsky, an investigative reporter for the Washington Examiner. told Mr. Savage. Matthew Peterson of Blaze News Tonight.
The center was launched in 2016 and had an eight-year accreditation.
“We've really peeled back the curtain on their relationship because of the suppression of speech,” Kaminski explains. “So Congress and House Republicans basically said they were not going to vote to reauthorize the Global Engagement Center.”
“They plan to redeploy those employees to other agencies,” he added.
“Does this mean everything is gone, or are we rushing to where? Because we have to be understandably very nervous about where they're going.” Mr. Peterson says.
“The Global Engagement Center employs a very large number of people, probably more than 100, and to be fair, some of those people are probably second-guessing all their roles at the agency. Some people are doing a lot of work, and the Global Engagement Center works with a lot of different agencies,” says Kaminski.
“Where are they going to go in the future? Will it be external non-governmental organizations that basically try to pressure governments to adopt policies that thwart allegations of disinformation?” he continues. .
“I'm definitely interested in tracking where these people end up. If it's in other agencies, perhaps the Trump administration is looking to do that in conjunction with broader efforts with DOGE. We will investigate,” he added. .
