WI Supreme Court Candidate Brad Schimel Talks Tackling Activist Court

The election of the Wisconsin Supreme Court on April 1 is considered the most important race of 2025, with a wide range of results not only for the nation on the battlefield, but also for the nation.

The race is between a Trump-backed Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge and a former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Simel and Dane County Circuit Judge. Susan CrawfordPreviously representing left-wing groups like Planned Parenthood as lawyers; Approval By groups like Emily's list of pro-aboration. Early voting is underway until March 30th.

The race followed the 2023 Wisconsin Supreme Court spurt election, with liberal Janet Protesiewitz defeating conservative candidate Dan Kelly, turning the court's balance into a 4-3 majority liberal. Conservatives will have the opportunity to regain the majority once again with the retirement of liberal justice Anne Walsh Bradley, but Democrats see it as an opportunity to drive policies that could ultimately lose Republicans and redraw legislative maps. Help They are approaching a slim majority of Republicans.

“This will affect not only Wisconsin, but the nation,” Simel told Breitbart News in an exclusive phone interview.

The Democratic view of DC's path to power on race is not mere speculation, it is publicly promoted. The email invitation obtained by Breitbart News has a subject line in a briefing between Democratic donor Crawford and Wisconsin Democratic chair Ben Wikler on January 13, stating “A chance to play two more house sheets in 2026.” In particular, Reid Hoffman's aide helped organize the event. New York Times It has been reported. A past visitor to Epstein Island, Hoffmann later contributed to the race alongside other leftist billionaires.

“But by winning this race, the Democrats could potentially win two additional US home seats, half of the seats needed to gain control of the home in 2026,” the email reads.

The two seats are currently being held by Rep. Brian Steele (R-WI) in the First Congressional District of Southeast Wisconsin, and Derrick Van Ouden (R-WI) in the Third Congressal District of the Battlefield West.

“They made a loud voice on quiet things and made it clear what they were doing. This is a power play to attract huge amounts of money from partisan donors, like in 2023, and turn that into court results,” Shimmel said in an email. Crawford has not responded to previous requests for comment, but Crawford has Denied fraudulent conduct When asked by other outlets.

“When people talk about a timeline that President Trump has to push his targets on, if you use the Wisconsin Supreme Court to gerrymandate the map as a court and change the House of Representatives representatives, that timeline will be shorter or shorter,” Simel added.

The judicial race is nonpartisan, but both sides of the political aisle have received heavily invested in election outcomes. Wisconsin Justice serves a 10-year term and another chance of changing courts will not occur until 2028.

Schimel told Breitbart News that he had no plans to run initially as he enjoys his job as a judge, but the 2023 election changed his mind.

“I saw what happened in 2023. We had candidates who openly promised how she would control the case before the case was filed, and of course, those cases began to be filed right after she took the oath of office,” he said. “There is no judicial system if the judge has not read the briefs, listened to the arguments, or applied the law. [and] Put your personal opinions and bias aside. That's what we have in court right now. ”

Simel likened what he considers as an activist court to “people who go to baseball games and referees come out wearing jerseys for the other team.”

“You're not going to wander around and wait for the end of this game – you know how it will end. When our Wisconsin Supreme Court has a court member wearing a jersey for the team, it's much more serious than having it in baseball [game] He continued. “This has real consequences for Wisconsinians, and when they have justice in courts that determine what the law should be, they have made Congress pointless.”

When asked about how the race was nonpartisan, and another left-wing attempt to introduce elections on abortion, said “Of course Republicans have become more leaning towards conservative judges, and Democrats have gone with Liberal judges.” when Roev. Wade It was hit in 2022, and Wisconsin's abortion restrictions in 1849 came into effect, but were put on hold in December 2023 and is expected to come to the state's High Court later this year.

“But there's a difference when talking about being a political conservative, a liberal, a judicial conservative or liberal. The judicial conservative party adheres to the standard that judges don't make laws, that this is the separation of power, and that Congress holds that power and not a court,” he elaborates. “Judicial liberals are activists who want to form laws based on the powers they hold as courts. That's a difference. So there's a natural polarization, as political conservatives generally agree with their judicial conservative philosophy and vice versa.”

Crawford refused to say how she controls the law, but she said in an interview that the government should not regulate abortions. According to In New York Times Headline article: “One of the biggest fights over abortion rights in 2025 has already begun.”

“As a woman, I believe I should make decisions with my doctor about my body and my health care,” she said. “I trust other women to make the same decision.”

Having spent a year and a half campaign on the ground in all 72 counties, Schimel pitches himself as an opportunity to restore balance to court. He also emphasized public safety prioritization; Approval from over 80 Wisconsin sheriffs and various law enforcement associations.

“I've come from 35 years of public safety, 25 years of public safety as a frontline prosecutor. Those eight are elected district attorneys in our third largest county, and four years when the state attorney general will make sure our state is safe,” he explained. “And I respect the limitations of justice that I have been running to restore a sense of humility, as a circuit judge who runs to restore the objectivity of this court.”

“The other side… they wear jerseys for the team. They provide a political agenda. We have to finish it,” he continued. “The political agenda should be checked in the political sector, not in the judicial sector.”

“My opponents offer to represent private practice some of the most radical and extreme left-wing groups we can identify, including the Planned Parenthood, The Madison Teachers Association and the voters of The League of Women,” he said. “[They] She has been her client for many years and is trying to continue delivering the promises she has given them. ”
