Widow of Campaign Shooting Victim Criticizes Secret Service

Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, who was tragically killed at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July, has expressed her deep disdain for the Secret Service. This incident involved a bullet meant for President Trump.

“I think the Secret Service is trash,” she stated in an interview. “I’ve been wanting to meet someone who can explain why this happened. Why that rally? Why Butler?” Her frustration was palpable as she questioned the circumstances surrounding the event.

Helen continued with a barrage of questions. “Why that specific day? What was the mix-up in Butler? Did someone instruct you to be confused? Were you told not to fulfill your duties?”

Criticism of the agency’s actions during the attempted assassination on July 13, 2024, has been widespread, leading to the resignation of the then-director, Kimberly Cittle.

On the day of the incident, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at the rally, fatally shooting Corey while also injuring Trump, shocking the attendees.

Dawn Comperatore Schaefer, Corey’s sister, reflected on the tragedy, sharing that her brother died trying to protect her daughter during the chaos. Corey’s daughter, Allison, described him as “the best dad a girl could ever wish for” and expressed her grief over his loss.

Helen pondered what she might say to Crooks’ parents, who have remained silent nearly a year post-attack. “If he was aware of his mental health issues, why didn’t anyone help him? They must have known he was struggling. Why was he allowed to take that gun out?” she questioned.

Following her husband’s shocking death, Helen has had a change of heart, learning to cherish each moment of life. “I try to be kind; I don’t harbor hatred, except for the Secret Service. Anger isn’t worth it. Life’s too short,” she remarked.

With heartfelt sentiment, she added, “I miss my husband immensely. This was a tragedy that shouldn’t have happened. I wish he were here.” To honor Corey, the family is planning a motorcycle ride on July 12 and a concert in Russelton, Pennsylvania. “It’s all for Corey. I hope everyone comes out to celebrate him,” Helen said.

She noted receiving a touching letter from Trump last month, sharing, “He reached out in June, checking in and attached a photo from that day. It was a lovely note reminding me that our families remain connected, and that I could reach out if needed.”
