A woman faces charges for allegedly assaulting a 72-year-old man wearing a MAGA hat in Largo, Florida.
The suspect, 33-year-old Laura Elizabeth Garrett, reportedly approached the man in Northeast Park and Paw Place on Tuesday. This incident has been highlighted in reports released Thursday.
According to the arrest report, Garrett questioned the man about his support for President Donald Trump. She is accused of pouring a beverage on him, striking him on the back of the head and shoulders, then fleeing the scene.
Victim Gary Gama was identified as the person targeted in this incident.
Witnesses reported the altercation between Garrett and Gama, providing police with sworn statements. Following the incident, when officers attempted to detain her, Garrett allegedly resisted. She reportedly kicked and threw herself to the ground, wrapping her leg around an officer, which led to her needing to be subdued by multiple officers.
Garrett is now facing several charges, including battery against a person over 65, battery against law enforcement, and resisting arrest without violence.
Reactions have emerged on social media, with one user asking, “Why do they always have blue hair?” Another commented, “The Blue Hair Woman attacks Trump supporters. It checks out,” while someone else noted, “Hair says it all.”
This incident reflects a trend where Trump supporters have reportedly been targeted. As noted by recent reports, an attack on Trump volunteers occurred near Alabama’s local Republican headquarters in May 2024. Moreover, in March 2019, it was stated that there were 334 hate crimes against Trump supporters amidst a broader context of media-reported violence against them since 2018.
