Kamala Harris' Potemkin town hall with Liz Cheney in Michigan on Monday wasn't the winning performance her campaign might have hoped for. But she had an opportunity this week to convince voters she was worthy of their vote, and she was able to do so without throwing any more word salad at her.
Unfortunately for the vice president, her CNN town hall in Aston, Pennsylvania on Wednesday turned into an unmitigated disaster. Friendly speakers and even former Obama adviser David Axelrod hinted as much.
Former Trump campaign advisor David Urban
said CNN's Van Jones said, “Republicans will cover Kamala Harris for another hour. We'll just hit play and let her go on. We'll pay for another hour… I would leave the question unanswered.”
The Trump campaign has already made at least one of Harris' answers from the town hall: mock advertisement.
Harris spokesman Ian Sams later said:
claimed The vice president deflected questions about the border wall and Israel, saying his boss was “not afraid of voters or real questions.” tax increase, Decriminalization of border crossing, Subsidizing benefits for illegal immigrants, Expansion and accumulation of the U.S. Supreme Court, expensive groceriesand Prohibition of hydraulic fracturing.
“Nothing, nothing, nothing.”
“What I'm hearing from the people I talk to” CNN host Dana Bash
noticed Then, “if her goal was to close the deal, they're not sure she did it.”
“As far as who she is, people are slowly starting to understand that,” Bash continued. “But the question about what she would do, her legislative priorities, 'name one.'
There wasn't one. ”
CNN panelist Scott Jennings
noticed“She's a real double threat. She's terrible at unexpected questions, but at the same time can't even answer expected questions. It's nothing, nothing, nothing.”
When Harris did decide to provide an answer, it was often labyrinthine and bordering on nonsense.
Democratic strategist and former Obama advisor David Axelrod
said His fellow CNN panelist said, “What worries me is when she doesn't want to answer a question. Her habit is to go to word salad city. And she does it with some answers. I did.”
CNN's Anderson Cooper
asked“Are there any mistakes that you think you've learned from your political life or your life over the past four years?'' Harris answered.
I mean, I've made a lot of mistakes. The range varies. If you've ever raised children, you know that you too make a lot of mistakes. In my role as vice president, I've probably worked very hard to make sure I'm familiar with the issues, and I think that's very important. It is a mistake to feel obligated to answer questions when you are not familiar with the issue.
Axelrod pointed out that Harris also answered a lot when asked about Israel without saying anything in particular.
“Mr. Anderson asked a direct question: Do you think you are stronger on Israel than Mr. Trump? And there were seven minutes of answers, none of which had anything to do with his question.” Axelrod said. “So I thought it was a missed opportunity because she acknowledged that she had no concerns about the administration's policies when it came to that particular question about immigration.”
When Anderson asked Harris if she regretted working with President Joe Biden to eliminate President Trump's effective border policies and open the floodgates, Harris replied:
said“I think I did it.” the right thing. ”
“That's a mistake,” Axelrod continued. “Sometimes you have to make concessions, and she didn't make many concessions.”
Harris seemed more focused on attacking President Donald Trump than on clarity or policy.
He's ahead of her in the polls.. Not only did she use inflammatory rhetoric that at one point set the stage for two known assassination plots, but Harris also shown She thinks the other person is a fascist.
Jake Tapper
said,”[Harris] I think it's fair to say that she was much more focused on Donald Trump than she was talking about a lot of specifics in terms of what he would do as president. ”
Ms. Harris' poor performance caused some supporters to collapse online.
Aaron Looper, former Vox deputy editor and journalist tweeted“Kamala Harris' City Hall was fine. She's more than capable. Vote against the fascists, for heaven's sake. It's over.”
Blaze News senior editor Courtney Weil responded to Looper: “'She's good enough! She's smart enough! And oh my god, Trump is a fascist.'”
