Zelensky Expresses Grief Over the Passing of Lindsey Graham, Whom He Recently Met in Kiev During His Final Public Appearance

Ukrainian President Pays Tribute to Senator Graham

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy recently met with Senator Lindsey Graham in Kiev. During this meeting, Zelenskiy expressed his thanks and offered condolences following the senator’s unexpected passing at 71.

Graham had visited Ukraine just days before his death, marking his first trip to the country in over four years amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.

At this visit, Graham shared updates on a sanctions proposal aimed at providing President Trump the necessary tools to address the war. He committed to pushing for bipartisan support for this initiative upon returning to Washington.

This visit appears to have been his final public appearance.

In a statement on social media, Zelenskiy conveyed his sorrow over Graham’s death, labeling him a staunch advocate for freedom and global security.

During his time in Ukraine, Graham toured a drone manufacturing facility, emphasizing the importance of U.S. cooperation with Ukraine in military support, particularly in drone technology. He noted that Ukraine was eager to assist the U.S., similar to how the U.S. had stood by Ukraine during its challenges.

Zelenskiy expressed deep appreciation for Graham’s loyalty, remarking that the senator had visited Ukraine ten times throughout Russia’s invasion, consistently supporting the country when it needed it the most. “I’m going to miss our conversations,” Zelenskiy added, recalling their recent meetings.

Additionally, Graham’s advocacy for Ukraine included efforts to strengthen sanctions against Russia, showcasing his commitment to bipartisan support for Ukrainian sovereignty. Zelenskiy thanked the public for their acknowledgment of the bravery displayed by Ukrainian defenders.

Graham’s office confirmed his death early on Sunday, revealing it was due to a “short-term sudden illness.” He had been serving in the U.S. Senate since 2003 and was campaigning for a fifth term ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Graham supported using military strength to influence global issues, and his backing of Ukraine fitted well within this philosophy.

In his closing remarks, Zelenskiy expressed condolences to Graham’s family and noted the significant loss of a determined leader for both America and the world.
