Meeting Between Zelensky and Trump Scheduled
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump soon after Trump’s discussions with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky shared this update on his social media account, stating the meeting will take place on Monday in Washington D.C.
“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelensky stated.
He mentioned having a “long and substantive conversation” with Trump post-summit with Putin. Initially, their conversation was private, but it eventually grew to include other European leaders, notably NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
During this dialogue, Trump shared significant points from his discussion with Putin. Zelensky expressed strong support for Trump’s proposal of a trilateral conference that would involve Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S.
“We had a long and substantive conversation with @POTUS. We started with one-on-one talks before inviting European leaders to join us. This call lasted for more than an hour and a half, including about an hour of our bilateral conversation with President Trump,” Zelensky tweeted.
Trump echoed Zelensky’s comments about the upcoming meeting, stating that their recent phone call “went very well.”
“It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which oftentimes does not hold up,” Trump wrote.
If the meeting on Monday goes positively, Trump suggested that this could lead to a discussion with Putin, emphasizing that it might save millions of lives.
While no peace agreement emerged from Friday’s dialogues, Trump highlighted the achievements made, asserting “a lot of progress” has been made. Putin shared a similar sentiment, describing the discussions as having taken place in a “constructive atmosphere of mutual respect.”
