Megan Kerrigan could find herself quite wealthy if she chooses to part ways with her husband, Andy Byron, who’s currently facing scandal. Under Massachusetts’ 50/50 Marriage Act, she stands to gain half of Byron’s wealth, estimated between $20 million and $70 million, as they have two children together.

The state mandates that married couples split assets accumulated over seven years. Matrimonial and family law attorney Nancy Chemtob highlights that Byron and Kerrigan’s situation clearly qualifies as a long-term partnership. Interestingly, Byron quickly changed his social media name to Kerrigan’s maiden name after a public incident involving his company’s HR executive.

The legal implications of the situation suggest that Byron, who recently resigned from the company he co-founded, may face significant financial consequences. Chemtob speculates that this could mean tens of millions going to Kerrigan.

There’s a bit of uncertainty regarding the exact timing of Byron’s wealth accumulation. Reports indicate his net worth could range widely—ideally between $200,000 and $70 million.

As for Byron’s alleged mistress, Christine Cabot, her financial situation in the impending divorce doesn’t seem as complicated. While she’s married to Andrew Cabot, the owner of a private rum business, their relationship appears to be of shorter duration.

If there are pre-marital or post-nuptial agreements in place, it could complicate matters further. Some agreements specify penalties for infidelity, potentially mandating compensation for betrayal.

Interestingly, footage from Coldplay concerts could serve as evidence in court, although Massachusetts law doesn’t require a formal dissolution of marriage for such situations. Jackie Combs, a family lawyer in Los Angeles, mentions that courts are generally hesitant to enforce infidelity clauses.

However, if marital funds are misused to support extramarital affairs, this could impact financial settlements in the divorce, according to Combs.

Ultimately, the most affected in all this might be the couple’s children. Chemtob suggests the embarrassment and emotional toll on them should not be overlooked.

“The worst part is how this affects the children,” she pointed out, emphasizing the profound impact on family dynamics. “There’s a lot at stake here for their well-being.”

It remains unclear how both marriages will evolve following this public scandal.
