Bill Reed, father of 45-year-old Karen Reed, has shared the family’s tumultuous journey through a lengthy legal battle in a recent podcast interview. Karen was charged with murder on January 29, 2022, concerning the death of her then-boyfriend, John O’Keefe, a Boston police officer. The night before O’Keefe’s death, he and Karen had spent time socializing in Canton, Massachusetts. After visiting several bars, they went to an afterparty at a fellow officer’s house. Details are murky surrounding what transpired after their arrival. Early the next morning, friends found O’Keefe deceased outside in the snow.

Initially, Karen faced charges of manslaughter for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene. Although prosecutors escalated the charges to second-degree murder, the jury ultimately cleared her of all murder allegations, while acknowledging her alcohol consumption prior to driving.

“I trust my daughter completely,” Bill said. “If she had harmed John O’Keefe, she would own up to it.
