Overnight, Russian glide bombs and missiles struck Ukrainian prisons and medical facilities, resulting in at least 21 deaths, according to officials on Tuesday.
In the southeastern Zaporidia region, at least 17 prisoners were reported killed, with over 80 others injured due to Russian airstrikes.
Authorities in the DNIPRO area noted at least four fatalities and eight injuries from the attacks.
Trump remarked on Monday that he had put an end to killings in Ukraine, referencing a three-year conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin and mentioning a 50-day deadline he recently set for Russian leadership. He expressed hope for progress in peace discussions by early August.
While Trump has criticized Putin’s ongoing assaults on Ukrainian civilians, the Kremlin continues its military actions without any signs of altering their strategy.
“I’m disappointed with Putin,” Trump stated during a visit to Scotland.
In response, Russia’s top EU official cautioned Trump against making ultimatums, warning him that he was “playing a dangerous game with Russia.”
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, commented that “Russia is neither Israel nor Iran,” indicating the improbability of yielding to such ultimatums.
Medvedev added, “Each new ultimatum constitutes a threat and brings us closer to war—not just between Russia and Ukraine, but potentially within their own borders.”
The Kremlin has made it clear that they believe Western involvement in Ukraine could escalate the conflict to NATO nations.
According to a Washington think tank, Kremlin officials are framing the situation as a geopolitical standoff with the West to rally domestic support for their actions in Ukraine and future operations against NATO.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched two Iskander M ballistic missiles, along with 37 Shahed drones. Ukrainian forces managed to intercept or neutralize 32 of these drones.
Ukrainian state criminal execution services indicated that a Russian airstrike near midnight struck the Bilenkivska correctional facility with several guided bombs.
This assault left around 42 inmates with serious injuries, while an additional 40 individuals, including a staff member, sustained various other injuries.
The strike caused significant damage to the prison cafeteria and other buildings, although the boundary fence held firm, preventing any escapes.
Ukrainian officials have decried the attacks, asserting that targeting civilian infrastructure—such as prisons—amounts to a war crime under international law.
In Dnipro, a missile impacted Kamianke city, partially collapsing a three-story structure and damaging a local hospital along with other medical facilities. This resulted in two deaths and five injuries, including that of a pregnant woman who is in critical condition, as reported by local authority Serhiy Rysack.
Further Russian drone and air bomb attacks were noted in the Synelnykivskyi district, leading to at least one death and two injuries.
Lysak pointed out that the Velykomykhailivska community was targeted, resulting in the death of a 75-year-old woman and injuries to a 68-year-old man.
