Trump supporter removed from soccer match for wearing 'MAGA' hat

Supporters of Trump were asked to leave a professional soccer game in St. Louis due to wearing “Make America Great Again” hats.

A video shared on X, which gained over a million views, features Michael Weitzel recording his interactions with stadium security and police at Enagaiser Park, home to St. Louis City SC, a Major League Soccer team.

“Are these rules enforced equally for everyone?” Weitzel questioned a guard, explaining that he was filming for his safety while approaching an officer.

“We’re being asked to leave the police for Donald Trump,” Weitzel stated to the camera.

The officer responded, jokingly identifying himself as “Donald Tramper,” before indicating that his political views aligned with the fans’ sentiments.

Authorities insisted that the venue considered itself “non-political” and wanted to avoid any political messaging at the game.

In response, Weitzel pointed out a pride flag flying in the stadium, saying, “So, the flag over there…” but was interrupted by officers who stated it was “pre-approved.”

Weitzel then asked about the fairness of the rules being applied to him and his MAGA hat. The guards affirmed that the rules applied to everyone, including him.

Although initially resigned to leave, he later expressed a change of heart.

After trying to comply with security’s request to remove his hat, they told him it was “already past it” and demanded he exit.

Reports indicate that Weitzel is a season ticket holder, raising further questions about the enforcement of the organization’s rules.

According to Major League Soccer’s Fan Code of Conduct, it is forbidden to display signs or symbols that support specific political candidates or governmental actions.

Greg Keller, who shared Weitzel’s video, mentioned that the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division is looking into this incident, though the DOJ has not commented on it.

Further inquiries have been made to St. Louis City SC regarding their policies on political messaging and whether fans will be banned in the future.
