Trump Plans Meeting with Putin

There’s news that President Donald Trump is gearing up for his inaugural meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This could happen next week. After that, they might engage in a trilateral discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The White House hasn’t confirmed these plans yet, but Trump indicated he aims for a “very productive” meeting with Putin during his visit to Moscow, Russia.

“My special envoy, Steve Witkov, had a very productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. There has been great progress!” Trump shared. “I’ve also updated various European allies. Everyone is on board that this war needs to come to an end. We’ll be working towards that in the days and weeks ahead,” he added.

Following Witkov’s chat with Putin last Wednesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that he was also discussing matters with Middle Eastern envoys.

“Ambassador Witkov is on his way back now,” Rubio commented. “I spoke with him just a few minutes ago. We’ve had ongoing discussions all day, and I’m hopeful we’ll have something more to present shortly.”

Shortly after, Zelensky tweeted about having spoken with Trump, highlighting that their combined stance with partners is clear: the war must end.

Russia and Ukraine have been at war since 2014, following Russia’s annexation of Crimea. The conflict significantly escalated in February 2022 when Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
