Ukrainian Ambassador to the US expresses hope for a productive Trump-Putin meeting

The Ukrainian ambassador mentioned during a recent meeting that “everything in Ukraine prays” for both President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to achieve “effective and great results.”

“Yes, we want Putin to be stopped. I genuinely hope that Trump’s pressure, along with the sanctions package proposed and existing secondary sanctions against those aiding the Russian President, will persuade him to end his invasion,” she stated.

Marcarova expressed appreciation for Trump’s efforts to conclude the war, noting that Vice President Vance would soon travel to England to discuss peace initiatives.

She also remarked on Trump’s repeated tariff increases in India, reflecting her belief that “the US will approach this from a stance of peace through strength, which will help us together find a way to stop the Russian invasion.”

Last Wednesday, Trump revealed plans to raise India’s tariffs by 25% due to Russian oil imports, bringing the total tariffs on Southeast Asian nations to 50%.

Trump indicated that he would meet with President Putin in Alaska on Friday. Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky reportedly has no plans to attend.

However, early Sunday, US ambassador Matthew Whitaker mentioned that Zelensky might “possibly” attend the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, though Markarkarova did not confirm this.

Moscow outlined a proposal to the Trump administration involving control of eastern Ukraine in exchange for a ceasefire lasting three years.

Still, Zelensky, who has not been invited to the Alaska meeting, firmly opposed this deal. “Decisions made without Ukraine are still decisions about peace. They lead nowhere. These are futile decisions,” he posted on X.
