Trump Claims Emails Implicate Obama Officials

The president stated that recent emails, allegedly originating from former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, should lead to prosecutions of Obama officials. These communications were sent just two months after Donald Trump was elected. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump expressed his disdain for Clapper and others, including former FBI director James Comey, labeling them criminals and insisting they ought to face charges.

When asked by reporters about the release of the documents from current DNI Tulsi Gabbard, Trump stated, “What we find is incredible. Absolute proof of guilt! And we will see what happens.” He mentioned the emails indicated that Clapper was responding to concerns regarding the intelligence community’s access to information about claims of Russian interference.

Trump asserted that Clapper emphasized the need for team efforts to push these reports, overriding standard procedures. He reiterated, “But Clapper and Comey, and the whole group, are criminals. They made it very difficult. You know, they were ‘Russia! Russia! Russia!’ That witch hunt lasted two years.” He further claimed that there was a plan to undermine his presidency.

In her official statement, Gabbard claimed the released emails substantiate allegations that Obama officials attempted to accuse Trump of conspiracy. She noted, “The main figures of the Russian hoax have spent years misleading the American public by presenting their questionable assessments as credible intelligence.” She concluded that the actions taken in crafting the 2017 intelligence assessment were a deliberate breach of standards originating from the top.
