Bill Maher Discusses Trump and Putin
On a recent episode of “Real-Time,” Bill Maher took aim at the allegation that former President Donald Trump is “Putin’s bi-h” after Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Maher expressed doubts about such claims, stating, “Don’t lie to zombies. Trump actually bombed Iran, didn’t exit NATO, and even reinforced NATO before he placed sanctions back on Russia.”
The conversation followed a three-hour discussion between Trump and Putin, during which Trump commented on the conflict in Ukraine. He characterized the meeting as “very warm” in an interview with Sean Hannity from Fox News, suggesting he wants both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to join him in future conversations.
Hours later, Maher reflected on what he does understand about Trump, saying that if there’s anything redeemable, it might be that Trump does not like war. “He really hates it when people die in conflicts,” Maher observed.
Walter Kirn, also on the panel, added some humor with his remarks, jokingly saying, “You’re really coming, Bill,” to which Maher snapped back that he wasn’t aligned with anyone. “It’s the true s,” he insisted.
The pair delved deeper into discussions about what Maher termed “zombie lies” regarding Trump’s ties to Putin. He commented that it was absurd to consider Trump as Putin’s puppet, especially given the nature of the Russian leader. Kirn countered by recalling that then-President Obama met with Putin without controversy in 2015, a point that Maher contested by highlighting that Obama didn’t heap praise on him as Trump did.
Trump, meanwhile, continued to label Putin as “smart” while criticizing President Biden’s handling of the situation in Ukraine, particularly during the Conservative Political Action Conference of 2022.
Addressing a crowd, Trump asserted, “The issue isn’t that Putin isn’t clever—he absolutely is. The true issue lies with our leaders who have allowed such aggression to continue.”
According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the war in Ukraine has resulted in approximately 1.4 million casualties since February 2022.
