Melania Trump urges the cessation of the war in Ukraine in a 'peace letter' delivered to Putin by the president: report

Melania Trump’s “Letter of Peace” to Putin

First Lady Melania Trump delivered a “Letter of Peace” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and expressing concern for the impact of war on children.

In the letter, which discusses the negative effects of war on youth, Melania’s sentiments were shared just before a summit in Alaska where President Trump and Putin would meet to talk about the situation. Reports indicate she wishes to highlight the innocence lost amid violence.

During the summit, President Putin read the letter aloud while representatives from both the US and Russia listened.

“Every child, whether born randomly in the countryside or in a bustling city, shares the same quiet dreams—dreams of love, potential, and safety,” the First Lady wrote, as seen in documents made public.

She emphasized, “As parents, our role is to nurture the aspirations of the next generation. As leaders, we bear an obligation to ensure the well-being of our children that goes beyond mere comfort.”

Melania continued with a direct appeal, urging, “Mr. Putin, you can restore their joyful laughter on your own. By safeguarding the innocence of these children, you contribute not just to Russia but to a greater good.”

This letter was prepared before the summit in Alaska, marking the first significant US-Russia engagement since June 2021, just months prior to the war’s onset.

Despite the summit being described as “very productive,” no concrete plans for a ceasefire emerged. Communication between the US and Russia has been ongoing, primarily through phone discussions, especially as Trump navigates efforts to broker peace in the war.

Reportedly, part of their talks included Putin’s request for Ukraine to concede parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk areas near the eastern border, although such negotiations did not occur without Ukrainian leadership present.

Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky is expected to meet with Trump in Washington, D.C. on Monday, where they will further discuss the outcomes of the meeting with Putin.
