Schumer: Trump’s criticism of mail-in voting isn’t grounded in truth or reality

Schumer: Trump attack on mail-in voting 'not based in fact or reality'

Schumer Criticizes Trump’s Stance on Mail-in Voting

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) responded sharply to President Trump’s recent attacks on mail-in voting, asserting that claims of widespread voter fraud are unfounded and “not based on real or actual evidence.”

This comment came after Trump announced his intention to “lead the movement” against mail-in voting, which became more prominent during the 2020 presidential election due to the pandemic. Trump, who lost to former President Biden, has continuously claimed that the election results were compromised, despite a lack of supporting evidence.

Schumer emphasized that his party would take active measures to combat any attempts to restrict mail-in voting in the future.

“Two facts stand out: Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, and voting by mail is safe, secure, and reliable,” Schumer stated. “This isn’t rooted in reality but is another way for Trump to silence Americans and support regressive laws reminiscent of Jim Crow.”

He further declared that Senate Democrats would ensure that any legislation making it more difficult for Americans to vote would be quashed in the Senate, reiterating their commitment to protecting democracy.

Trump expressed his views in a lengthy post on Truth Social earlier on Monday.

“I will lead the move to get rid of mail-in votes. It’s a very inaccurate, very expensive, and highly controversial process that costs significantly more than a reliable system,” he claimed. “We’re starting this initiative to counteract the Democrats, who have been deceived in unprecedented ways by an executive order aimed at ensuring integrity in the 2026 midterm elections.”

He later described mail-in voting as a “hoax” associated with malfunctioning machines, insisting that it is a “complete disaster” that must come to an end.

Yet, it’s worth mentioning that Trump cannot unilaterally alter voting laws; such changes must be enacted at the state level.
