A nurse in Florida is facing serious charges after allegedly sexually abusing her 15-year-old stepson. Alexis von Yates, 35, was accused of engaging in illegal sexual activities with the minor last year, following claims made by her husband, Frank, who reportedly caught her in the act.
Even though von Yates has not confessed to the allegations of indecent and lewd battery made against her in a recent court hearing, her nursing license was revoked amid the accusations. Prosecutors noted that the boy’s family backed a plea deal, aimed at sparing him the trauma of reliving his experiences, which could interfere with his mental health treatment.
According to reports, von Yates is set to serve two years in the Department of Corrections, which will be followed by a two-year community control period and ten years of probation as a sex offender. There’s also a requirement for her to complete 200 hours of community service along with paying fines and court costs. The final details of her sentencing will be clarified in September, when the victim and his biological mother plan to address the court.
The investigation into the allegations was initiated after police received anonymous tips in July 2024 regarding suspected sexual abuse. It was reported that the alleged abuse occurred at her husband’s home in Florida. On the evening of the incident, von Yates reportedly put her own children to bed and then spent time in the living room with her stepson, watching movies and engaging in activities such as vaping THC.
Things escalated when a horror film was turned on around 1 AM, during which it’s claimed she “seduced” the minor. The boy has reportedly stated that she expressed feelings of frustration, mentioning a lack of intimacy and being on her period. Allegedly, they shared a hug, and soon after, von Yates initiated physical contact. The situation intensified when Frank returned home from work to discover them both nude on the couch.
During the ensuing chaos, Frank confronted von Yates, accusing her of being a predator while expressing his shock. The boy recounted hearing the garage door open around the time of the alleged assault. Despite the disturbances, the exact details of the confrontation remain somewhat unclear.
Following her arrest on November 6, 2024, von Yates’ nursing license was promptly suspended. Initially, the victim was scheduled to testify via Zoom but was ultimately spared this due to the plea agreement. As one prosecutor noted, the family’s desire for a resolution outweighed concerns for the victim’s emotional wellbeing, reassuring the judge that justice was being served by allowing the boy to avoid an additional trauma.
In Florida, the boy is three years below the age of consent, which adds another layer to the charges against von Yates.
