Officials have identified comedian Reggie Carroll from Baltimore, who gained recognition for his stand-up performances across the nation.
The 52-year-old was shot on Wednesday at the South Haven Police Station. This was noted in a previous update.
Responding officers arrived at Burton Lane, where they discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound.
Despite attempts to save him, the victim, later confirmed to be Carroll, succumbed to his injuries, according to authorities.
“One man is in custody and charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll. Our thoughts are with Mr. Carroll’s family. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding,” police remarked in a statement.
As the investigation continues, details about the alleged shooter have yet to be disclosed.
Dubbed the “Chockout King of Comedy,” Carroll was well-known for his stand-up specials, which he both hosted and produced. He had cultivated a dedicated audience through his comedy work.
He made various appearances on television, including shows like the Apollo and Showtime.
Fellow comedian and Oscar winner Mo’Nique honored Carroll on Instagram, referring to him as her “comedy brother.” She expressed her feelings, saying, “That’s why I treat you the best I can because I don’t know if I’ll get the chance to see you again.”
She reminisced about their tours together, stating, “It was an amazing time, so there were no sad tears because all of our time was amazing.”
Carroll’s brother, Jonathan, shared a heartfelt message expressing gratitude for the support received in light of Reggie’s passing.
“Your love is appreciated by all who have shown sadness for Reggie Carroll’s loss,” he mentioned in a Facebook post, signing off as “Carol Brothers.”
