Incident Involving Boston Firefighter Leads to Arrest
A Boston firefighter recently found herself in hot water, quite literally, when she allegedly struck her former boyfriend in front of police over the weekend.
Kara Stapleton, who just graduated from the Boston Fire Academy, is facing accusations of assault after an incident outside the Shanty restaurant in Quincy on Sunday evening. According to the police report, she was lying on her back in the parking lot, allegedly hitting the man multiple times. Officers at the scene reportedly witnessed the entire incident.
Details from the report indicate that Stapleton and the man had just been ejected from the waterfront venue. Officers noted that she had a “strong odor” of alcohol and exhibited signs of having been in a physical altercation, like bloodshot eyes.
One officer commented in the report about observing Stapleton’s actions, referring to it as an “Open Hand Slap.” In a surprising turn, she confessed that the man she had hit was in fact her “boyfriend, no ex-boyfriend,” and lamented that he had cheated on her.
Interestingly, during the arrest, Stapleton requested officers to remove her handcuffs because she needed to attend her EMT school the following morning. She expressed concerns about potentially losing her job if detained.
Charged with assault and battery involving an intimate partner, Stapleton’s situation is hardly ideal. Following her arrest, she pleaded not guilty and was released on her own recognizance.
In a curious detail, her ex-boyfriend maintained throughout that he wasn’t harmed during the incident. He was taken to the Quincy Police Station for his safety but was reportedly “very uncooperative” during the booking process.
Just earlier this month, Stapleton was among the recruits celebrated at the Boston Fire Department graduation ceremony. It’s a stark contrast, to say the least, between that moment of achievement and her current legal troubles.
