Democratic National Committee Postpones Meeting After School Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS – The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has postponed its summer meeting in Minneapolis due to a tragic shooting incident at local Catholic schools that occurred just minutes before the scheduled session.
In a quick decision, the DNC called off the afternoon meeting right after an audio voting session, where previous resolutions and committee reports were approved. Earlier in the day, DNC Chairman Ken Martin opened the gathering with a prayer and extended his support to those caring for children affected by the shooting. “This is the first week of school for many kids,” Martin noted. “Families woke up today to celebrate significant milestones for their children. This is heart-wrenching. It reminds us of the tragedies our city has faced.”
Martin also referenced the recent loss of friends of the committee, highlighting the shooting as yet another painful reminder of community violence. “We lost Melissa and Mark Hortman earlier this summer,” he said. “These incidents have become far too common. We need your prayers, we need faith, and we need strong leadership to confront this evil,” he urged the members during the meeting.
The news of the shooting was still fresh when he addressed the executive committee on Wednesday morning. “I want to share some news that’s quite shocking,” Martin stated. “Right here in Minneapolis, we have active shooters, and we’re facing an alarming number of casualties.” His call for support echoed through the venue as he asked local doctors and first responders to lend their assistance.
After a member proposed to suspend the meeting, Ken Martin echoed the sentiment of concern and urgency surrounding the situation. “This is a very tragic time for this community,” he acknowledged, updating that there are reported casualties. “This shouldn’t happen,” added California DNC Commissioner Andrew Luckman, emphasizing the country’s pressing issues with gun violence.
The DNC Winter Conference is set to be held on December 11, 2025, in Los Angeles.
