Tragic Shooting at Minneapolis Catholic School
On August 27, Robin Westman, a 23-year-old transgender individual, tragically opened fire at a Minneapolis Catholic School during a mass ceremony. This horrific act took the lives of two children and left 17 others injured. Westman, who had been a student at the school, ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In the aftermath, investigators discovered various writings and videos from Westman that displayed animosity towards several groups and an unsettling fixation on mass shootings.
Jill Savage, host of “Blaze News: The Mandate,” expressed her frustration, stating, “Minneapolis didn’t just cause a massacre. It helped make it happen.”
The incident has drawn significant scrutiny towards Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who are perceived as morally accountable for what transpired.
Minneapolis was already facing criticism regarding its leadership due to events surrounding George Floyd’s death when Governor Waltz declared Minnesota a sanctuary for transgender individuals in 2023. Although this decision faced backlash, Mayor Frey continued to advocate for the transgender community. At a press conference following the tragedy, he remarked, “Those who exploit this situation to attack the trans community have lost their sense of humanity.” The next day, he reiterated these sentiments in an interview.
Jill Savage raised questions about the community’s priorities: “Shouldn’t we address the suffering of the Catholic community? Was it not children who were victimized in that church?”
This marks the 42nd or 43rd attack on Catholic churches in the U.S. within the year, totaling over 520 attacks since 2020. “These acts are demonic, anti-Catholic, and pro-abortion,” she added.
Some, like Chris Bedford, have voiced their concern over the implications of Minnesota’s policies, suggesting they foster a culture of violence. Bedford criticized the state’s regulations allowing children to be separated from parents who oppose “tolerant abortion laws” and “gender-affirming care.” He highlighted the need for further investigation into the effects of cross-sex hormone therapy and other medical interventions on individuals identifying as transgender, questioning whether these might have influenced Westman’s actions.
Regarding Governor Waltz, Bedford stated, “His actions deserve condemnation for fostering anti-Catholic sentiment.” Notably, Waltz rejected proposals for funding school security for Catholic institutions in both 2022 and 2023, despite a significant state budget surplus, thus excluding private schools from safety enhancements given to public ones.
Bedford concluded with a stark warning: “Such permissiveness by our politicians only nurtures evil in our society.”
