Trump Advisers Propose Eric Adams for Saudi Arabia Ambassador Post
High-ranking advisers to Trump are suggesting that Eric Adams, the current mayor of New York City, be nominated as the next ambassador to Saudi Arabia. This discussion comes while Trump navigates a politically charged environment, trying to stall Adams’ momentum in the mayoral race, particularly as he competes with socialist candidate Zoran Mamdani.
However, it’s a bit uncertain how serious these talks are within the White House about making this appointment.
The push for Adams’ nomination is being spearheaded by Steve Witkoff, a key advisor and special envoy for the Middle East. It appears that a flexible role for Adams is something higher-ups in the Trump administration have been considering, and his potential ambassadorship is being floated as an option.
Sources suggest that this move could allow Adams to gracefully exit the mayoral race.
Over the weekend, Trump reached out to prominent GOP fundraisers in New York City and indicated that he would like Adams to drop out of the mayoral competition by next week. This would potentially give former Governor Andrew Cuomo a clearer pathway to challenge Mamdani in the November election.
Attempts to contact the Adams campaign have not been successful.
It’s still unclear if discussions about the ambassadorship would necessitate Adams resigning from his position at City Hall. Even if he decides to suspend his campaign, his name is likely to remain on the ballot in November unless he resigns and relocates from New York City.
On a personal note, Adams has publicly stated that he doesn’t have any intentions to take a job with Trump and plans to complete his first term as mayor.
