Trump promises a national emergency in Washington, DC regarding the ICE conflict.

On Monday, President Donald Trump announced he would not engage with immigration and customs enforcement, declaring a national emergency and suggesting a restructuring in Washington, D.C.

The focal point is the sharing of information regarding individuals living or entering the U.S. illegally. Critics argue that Trump’s actions represent an overreach of federal power, especially with over 2,000 troops currently deployed in the city.

This statement followed Trump’s previous remarks about intensifying law enforcement, attributing recent crime surges to a breakdown in order, which he claims necessitated the activation of the National Guard.

According to Trump, “In just a few weeks, places are absolutely booming… For the first time in decades, there are virtually no crimes,” as he stated on his Truth platform.

There has been no immediate response from Bowser’s office regarding Trump’s statements.

Previously, Trump had put the Metropolitan Police Department under federal authority and sent federal agents, including those from immigration enforcement, into the streets. It remains unclear when their operations will conclude.

The President criticized what he termed the “radical left Democrats,” warning that if local police halt cooperation with ICE, it could lead to a rise in crime, especially if Bowser pressed for government information on ICE’s non-compliance.

He further noted:

The National Guard operates as a state militia unless called into federal service, directly reporting to the President.

Bowser, who has previously acknowledged the impact of increased federal law enforcement on crime reduction, signed an order in collaboration with them.
