Stephen Colbert Wins Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series

Stephen Colbert snagged an Emmy Award for his exceptional talk series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards held on Sunday nights. It was a notable win for his show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

During his acceptance speech, Colbert shared, “Sometimes, when you get the feeling that you might lose it, you just know how much you love something. I’ve never loved my country more desperately. God bless America.”

Colbert has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, and he announced in July that CBS would be canceling his show next year. “The Late Show,” which Colbert took over from David Letterman in 2015, is set to conclude in May 2026.

In a light-hearted moment during his speech, referring to a Prince song, he advised, “Be strong and brave. If the elevator is about to take you down, go crazy and slap the higher floor.” It was a bit surreal but also quite fitting.

Colbert bested competitors like “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and the host of Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” He expressed gratitude towards CBS during his speech, saying, “I want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege to be part of our late-night tradition. I hope it will last even after we stop doing this show.”

Earlier that night, Colbert received a standing ovation for another award, jokingly mentioning he might need to start job hunting. “Is anyone hiring? Perhaps I should give Harrison Ford a resume,” he quipped.

In July, CBS stated that the cancellation was strictly a financial decision amid the challenging late-night landscape.

Colbert’s Critique of Political Violence

Colbert also made headlines for his remarks about political violence after the tragic assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. He spoke out against the violence, saying, “My condolences go out to his family and all his loved ones. I’ve seen political violence, especially in the 1960s, and it never settles our differences.”

Colbert emphasized that political violence leads only to more violence and expressed a hope that such actions were isolated incidents rather than a trend for the future.
