Gary Busey Receives Probation for Criminal Sexual Contact
Gary Busey, the Hollywood actor, recently pled guilty to one count of criminal sexual contact involving inappropriate behavior towards a woman at a horror film convention in New Jersey back in 2022.
As part of the judicial agreement, three additional charges against him were dismissed.
On Thursday, Judge Gwendolyn Blue sentenced the 81-year-old actor to probation and prohibited him from contacting the victim.
Busey attended the sentencing hearing via Zoom from his home in California. Interestingly, he chose not to speak when given the chance by the judge.
In his video response, he stated, “I’m following the advice of lawyers.”
According to his defense attorney, Blair Zwillman, Busey had expressed a preference for receiving only a financial penalty. Zwillman mentioned the actor’s ongoing health struggles, including early-stage dementia and mobility issues.
Adding to the case, Zwillman noted that Busey sustained permanent brain damage from a motorcycle accident in 1988 and is currently facing mild cognitive impairment and hearing loss.
Nonetheless, the judge pointed out Busey’s prior legal complications. He had received probation in 2007 for trespassing and disorderly conduct, as well as another probation sentence in 2021 due to a hit-and-run incident.
Busey’s defense indicated he was eager to move past the negative publicity surrounding the New Jersey situation. It has reportedly persisted for over three years.
The incident at the horror film convention occurred in August 2022 during a six-month monster mania event held at a hotel in Camden County. Busey was a featured guest at this three-day event and had interactions with fans.
Multiple women have claimed inappropriate actions from Busey during photo sessions at the convention.
Allegations included Busey allegedly placing his face near a woman’s chest and asking about her bra strap. Other accusations involved inappropriate touching of female fans during a photo op.
When questioned about the allegations in August 2022, Busey denied them, asserting, “It didn’t happen. It all was a misunderstanding.”
However, during his recent appearance in court, he had indicated that his touching of others was deliberate.
In addition to this criminal case, Busey is currently involved in a civil lawsuit from two women in New York seeking damages related to the monster mania convention.
Busey is widely recognized for roles in films including “Predator 2,” “The Buddy Holly Story,” “Point Break,” and “Under Siege.”
