Trump Addresses UN Malfunctions
During a recent trip to the United Nations, President Donald Trump encountered some unexpected issues with the escalator and a malfunctioning teleprompter. This led to speculation among some of his allies regarding potential sabotage.
On Tuesday, while Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were using an escalator at the UN headquarters in New York City, it abruptly stopped. Additionally, technical difficulties with the teleprompter caused disruptions while he was speaking, resulting in Trump acknowledging these issues publicly.
“I’m accountable,” he remarked, adding, “These are two things I got from the United Nations: bad escalators and bad teleprompters. Thank you very much.”
While Trump seemed to take the situation in stride, the concerns among those close to him were palpable. They seemed less amused by the equipment failures.
In light of the escalator halt, a UN staff member remarked humorously that they could turn off elevators and escalators during Trump’s arrival, leading some to suggest that this was a deliberate act to create chaos. “If someone from the UN intentionally stops the escalator while the president and first lady are there, they will face immediate consequences,” was the strong sentiment expressed by one of Trump’s allies.
The US Secret Service has reportedly started an investigation into whether the escalator malfunction was indeed intentional.
Another individual stated, “If we find out these are UN staff who are intentionally causing problems, we have serious issues here,” underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Despite the growing speculation, some UN officials pointed to more benign explanations. Stephen Dujarric, a spokesperson for the UN, mentioned that the escalator’s stoppage could be a result of safety features being triggered.
“The videographer may have inadvertently activated safety mechanisms,” Dujarric noted, emphasizing that these features are designed to prevent accidents.
