FBI Director Highlights Motive Behind Shootings Targeting ICE Facilities
The FBI director, Kash Patel, revealed new details on Thursday suggesting that a recent shooter aimed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities out of hatred for the agency.
On Wednesday, suspect Joshua Yarn opened fire at an ICE center in Dallas, Texas, resulting in the deaths of two detainees before he took his own life. In a post on X, Patel mentioned that Yarn had downloaded a document pinpointing various Department of Homeland Security (DHS) facilities and had searched for applications tracking ICE agents. Notes left behind indicated clear intentions to target these agents.
Patel stated, “We are committed to providing timely updates.” He noted that Yarn had accessed a document titled “Dallas County Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency,” which included a list of DHS facilities. Between September 23 and 24, he also searched for “Charlie Kirkshot Videos.” One of his notes read, “Are there any snipers with an AP round on that roof?”
In an earlier release, Patel shared a picture of a bullet casing from the shooter, which had “anti-ICE” inscribed on it.
Despite this evidence, some liberal media outlets have attempted to attribute the violence to rhetoric from President Donald Trump against illegal immigrants. Christopher O’Leary, from the Soufan Group, and CNN’s Bakari Sellers have made such claims.
This incident marks yet another attack on ICE facilities since Trump took office again in January. Notably, there was a shooting incident in July that left a police officer wounded during an ambush at an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, while a shooter also filmed Border Patrol agents at another facility in McAllen, Texas.
Critics from the Democratic party have drawn comparisons between ICE and the Nazis, arguing that the agency exhibits authoritarian characteristics in its operations against illegal immigrants, many of whom have committed violent crimes. Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz has labeled ICE as a “modern Gestapo,” denouncing it as a “fraudulent institution that shouldn’t exist.”
Similarly, Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, on August 25, declared that ICE is “beyond reform and should be abolished.” She has also echoed claims regarding agents detaining a young autistic girl as reported by NBC News, which later issued a correction regarding the incident.
