Kamala Harris on Biden’s Reelection Campaign
If you’ve been away from the media circus, you might have missed former Vice President Kamala Harris and her unique speaking style. Recently, she has been promoting her new book, “107 Days,” and took part in an interview with Michael Strahan on “Good Morning America.” During their chat, she shared her thoughts on Joe Biden’s performance during his second-term reelection campaign.
Harris emphasized that her worries about him running again were separate from her respect for his capabilities as president. “My concern about him running for reelection was completely separate from my praise and knowledge of his ability to serve as President of the United States,” she stated.
Strahan probed further, asking if she thought Biden was fit to run the country for another four years. Harris responded with a nuanced perspective, “Me – here’s the distinction I make. Having experience on my own, and having the ability to govern is one thing. Elections for the US president is another.”
She likened running for president to “being in a marathon at the pace of a sprinter,” noting how challenging it can be, given that “people throw tomatoes at you every time you take [a step].” It’s clear she believes that campaigning requires a level of stamina that is quite overwhelming.
While she insisted that elections are tough, host Stu Burguiere couldn’t help but question her logic. “So she says it’s harder for the president than for the president. That’s her case. That’s a strange argument,” he reflected, pointing out the gravity of international responsibilities entailed in the role.
“Running a campaign is like throwing tomatoes at you while running a marathon at a sprinter’s pace,” he cracked, further adding a bit of humor to the serious tones of the conversation. It’s an interesting perspective on the balancing act between managing global affairs and navigating the election process.
