Heartbroken father of Logan Federico criticizes politicians for weak crime policies that let his daughter's repeat offender killer stay free.

A 22-year-old father recently shared his heartbreak over the death of his daughter, who was killed by a repeat offender while he was visiting a friend at the University of South Carolina. He criticized lawmakers for their crime policies that allowed this alleged murderer to remain free.

During a Congress hearing aimed at addressing growing concerns about violent crime, Stephen Federico delivered an emotional plea. He expressed upset after Deborah Ross, a Democratic representative from North Carolina, mistakenly identified a photo of his daughter, Logan, in her testimony.

“This is my daughter, right? This is Logan Federico,” he confronted Ross. “I dare you not to know her,” he said, emphasizing his anguish. Ross apologized for the error before the hearing moved forward.

Federico urged the committee to think of their own children as he described the tragic circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death. Logan was shot on May 3rd by 30-year-old Alexander Dicky, a known criminal who had broken into a home in Columbia, South Carolina.

He described the horrific moment she was attacked, detailing how she was awakened and threatened in her own space. “She was just trying to come home from a night out,” he lamented, emphasizing how small and defenseless she was.

“Why was Alexander Dicky on the street?” he asked in frustration, pointing out that the man had faced over 39 arrests and numerous felony charges yet had spent only about 600 days in jail over the past decade.

Federico criticized the legal system for failing to keep dangerous offenders off the streets and protecting not just his daughter but countless others. “He should have been in prison for 140 years,” he stated. “But no one understood that he couldn’t be rehabilitated,” he added, a hint of disbelief in his voice.

In a pledge to fight for justice, he declared, “I will fight for my daughter until my last breath.” He insisted that the panel needed to hear his story, expressing trust that they had the power to make change.

Records indicate that Dicky had been charged with nearly 40 offenses since 2013 but had only faced penalties for eight of them, including robbery and drug possession. In 2023, he had been sentenced for a third-degree robbery but was released early due to “compliance” with probation rules.

Police reported that on the day of Logan’s murder, Dicky had driven a stolen vehicle into the area, breaking into several homes. Eventually, he entered the residence where Federico’s daughter was staying, leading to the tragic incident.

After fleeing the scene, Dicky was arrested the following day. Authorities found him trying to evade capture, and he is now facing multiple serious charges, including murder and first-degree robbery. Depending on the outcome of the legal proceedings, he could face life in prison.

With the situation ongoing, Federico’s commitment to seek justice for his daughter remains unyielding.
