Teen Soccer Team Deception Unfolds in Minnesota
A 22-year-old man with a history of indecent exposure managed to enroll in a Minnesota high school, posing as a teenager. Kelvin Mikaia Luebke, who was known to his peers as “KJ Perry,” supposedly joined the school’s soccer team as a 17-year-old running back before being apprehended.
Fraudulent Registration Confirmed by School
The White Bear Lake Area High School (WBLAHS) acknowledged the fraudulent registration, issuing a statement regarding the incident. According to Principal Russ Reetz, once they received reports about an individual over 21 enrolling, an investigation was promptly initiated. The findings indicated that Luebke took advantage of the registration process, exploiting loopholes that allowed him to register.
Reetz emphasized the commitment of the staff and families to uncover the truth. He stated, “The safety and happiness of all students is our number one priority. We appreciate the vigilance of our community in reporting concerns that have led to this investigation.” The school clarified that students are required to provide a birth certificate and other documentation for enrollment, though the specifics of how Luebke bypassed these requirements remain unclear.
Background and Arrest Details
Public records reveal Luebke’s involvement in inappropriate online conduct and previous offenses related to minors. In July 2023, records showed he had inappropriate communications with a juvenile. A local news affiliate reported that he had previously been convicted of sending explicit materials to a 15-year-old, and he reportedly harbored issues related to his age identity.
On September 28, Luebke was arrested during a traffic stop that uncovered multiple outstanding warrants across various counties. Initially booked at Hennepin County Jail, he faced specific charges in Washington and Anoka counties, with bail set at varying amounts.
Backlash from Community and Legislators
The shocking news has sparked significant outrage among parents and local officials. State Representative Elliot Engen, a White Bear Lake alum, criticized the school’s administration for their handling of the situation. He expressed his discontent with the school leadership, stating that the community has lost trust due to repeated failures during Kazmierczak’s tenure as director.
Engen called for accountability and voiced concerns for students facing uncertain circumstances because of these incidents. His remarks indicate a deep-seated frustration with the ongoing issues plaguing the school district.
Ongoing Investigation Continues
The school district plans to conduct a thorough internal review while cooperating with local authorities as the legal proceedings progress. Engen added, “My parents want answers, and they deserve action. This cannot happen again.”
